Description

Grades K-12
Several recent studies reveal the long-term psychological repercussions of bullying on all who are involved: the aggressor/perpetrator, the target/victim, and those who witness these despicable events. A study published in the most recent issue of the American Journal of Psychiatry concludes, “The effects of bullying are still visible nearly four decades later … with health, social and economic consequences lasting well into adulthood.” The study was led by Ryu Takizawa, M.D., Ph.D at the Institute of Psychiatry at King’s College London.
n this insightful 90-minute primer on bullying, Charles A. Williams III, Ph.D, aka “Dr. Chuck” national speaker, leading expert in child & adolescent psychotherapy and an educational psychologist who has joint faculty appointments at the University level will help participants audit current literature and the latest research on bullying. He will also examine recent case studies (some pulled from news headlines), where the role of the perpetrator will be highlighted. The psychological and emotional “profiles” of school-aged youth who bully will be discussed.
Participants will be able to respond to questions posed (as well as pose questions themselves) while receiving answers in real-time. Questions attendees will be able to answer:

Were perpetrators bullied in the home?’
What role do parent(s) or caregiver(s) play in bullying behavior?
Have perpetrators once been bullied by a peer?
What motivates a bully?
What type(s) of psychological reward is gained by bullying?
Are bullies typically popular or unpopular with their school-aged peers?
How do adults (caregivers/school staff) interpret the perpetrators behavior?
